You don’t want to miss the bi-annual Party at the Wharf to get the whole Chesapeake Bay experience! Twice a year, the Mathews Land Conservancy (MLC) hosts a Party at William’s Wharf, the MLC’s official headquarters. Currently renovations are making headway to preserve the historical landmarks on the public waterfront, and also build facilities including the Boathouse Community Center to double as a place for Mathews residents and visitors to gather for eco-friendly waterfront events and activities, and also serve as a modern training facility for crew teams, regattas and sailing camps.
The MLC knows how to throw a party! A free Party at the Wharf is available to the public the weekend of the Tour De Chesapeake where bikers, and fans come together after a long weekend of pedaling the town to enjoy music, food, and unwinding by the river. The other Party at the Wharf is hosted the same Friday as Mathews Market Days – the annual two day long festival hosted the weekend after labor day. This September party has a $5 cover charge, but all proceeds go to Mathews Land Conservancy and their restoration projects. This is the party of the year for many Mathews’ residents so you don’t want to miss it! Visit the Mathews Land Conservancy website for specific event dates and times.
What’s not to love about a party right on the shores of the East River? Live music is played all night long by 7th Street, an 8 piece band that plays a great variety of music for lots of dancing. There are food trucks on site that sell fresh, local seafood (they do take credit cards!) and other yummy finger foods. There is also a cash bar to purchase beer and wine all night long. Whether you are out shaking your hips, or want lay low under the covered waterfront pavilion, make some new local friends, hell make ‘em family!
