See Mathews by Water
Did you know that Mathews County is the 2nd smallest county in Virginia with the most amount of shoreline? While there is plenty to do, see and eat on land, your just have to see Mathews by water while you visit!
Call or email Captain Trey Sowers to book a cruise on his 38 ft. classic wooden Chesapeake Deadrise “The Helen Elizabeth”. 804-815-6132 or visit Chesapeake bay boat tours. We’re the only B&B in Virginia that has a boat cruise available right from our back yard!

Mathews Deadrise Charters
Arrange for a romantic sunset cruise, private charter, fishing charter, or lighthouse tour to include New Point Comfort Light and/or Wolftrap Light. Also ask about his oyster tours that include learning to shuck and you even get to taste some!
USCG certified, Captain Trey Sowers will lead you on an authentic Chesapeake Bay experience straight from our dock up the East River. You will see historic homes, like the famous old plantation house that was once owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Also see landmarks including the last surviving Tidemill in Virginia. If you book an oyster tour you will be treated to an oyster shucking demo and tasting.
Sample some of Captain Trey’s own scrumptious Chapel Creek Oysters fresh from his oyster farm. His oysters can be foundat some of the finest restaurants in Richmond VA and surrounding areas. This is the easiest way to see Mathews by water without even leaving the property!
We only take out up to 6 passengers at a time, so you will never feel overcrowded. Enjoy a few drinks, relax, and savor your time on Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay as you watch the fish jumping, osprey in their nests, and maybe even a few dolphins will say hello. It’s all good here at the Inn at Tabbs Creek @thebay.calm
