Picture a quintessential fall weekend in Coastal Virginia and almost always a good ol’ Oyster Roast comes to mind. By request of many of our “Regulars”, (i.e. frequent return guests), we started doing an Oyster Roast week end here at the Inn the first weekend of November, which is the same weekend as the popular Urbanna Oyster Festival in another nearby Chesapeake Bay small town. As that weekend grew more and more popular often with a waiting list, we were then encouraged to do more oyster roast week ends which we started a few years ago now, and those became so successful that we have added even MORE dates this fall!

What’s Included
Every Saturday we host a complimentary wine and cheese happy hour from 5-6 where guests get to mingle and enjoy some fun times/stories/laughter. On the weekends we are doing Oyster Roasts, those that want to participate will gather around the waterfront firepit where they will be treated to locally grown oysters from nearby Williams Wharf Oyster Company as well as sampling some “wild” oysters straight from our creek. We serve the oysters two ways: Roasted on the Grill and “Back Porch Style” which are oysters that have been simmered in their juices along with copious amounts of butter and garlic then served on a Saltine cracker with a variety of hot sauces/tobasco available. Even some guests who said they really didn’t care for oysters have had their mind changed after sampling our Back Porch Oysters!
Although you will more than get your fill of Oysters, we will also have Lori’s home-made Brunswick stew…another Fall favorite. Over the past several years, she has been studying various “Stew Master”, (yes in the Brunswick Stew world, there really is such a title!) recipes and has created her own rich and hearty version of this classic Virginia culinary treat. Cornbread, desert, cold beer and wine as well as water and tea make the meal complete, then we will also have all the fixin’s for S’mores as well. All this while you watch the fall sunset over the water and enjoy meeting new friends around the fire. We may even be persuaded to tell a Mathews County ghost story or two! After Sundown, you will be able to see so many stars on a clear night as we have little to no city light pollution, as well as watch a variety of fish circle around our Deep Glo fish light at the end of our dock.

Oyster Roasts will be held on Saturday Nights the following weekends, rain or shine, (if inclement weather we do everything inside and gather around the fireplaces in the Library and/or Pub Room).
