Winter months at our Virginia Bed and Breakfast are even more quiet and relaxing than the warmer months. Wintertime offers an especially nice opportunity to truly relax and decompress. Curl up and get cozy on the leather sofas in our Library next to a warm fireplace. Enjoy reading a book (we have plenty you can borrow) or catch up on your favorite show on one of our smart tv’s. All our guest rooms have smart tvs, and cozy sitting areas with comfy chairs. Our 3 suites also have their own private patios with fire table and gas heaters. There are so many relaxing spots at the Inn, the only trouble you’ll have is deciding which one to use!

Christmas at the Inn is also a very magical experience. Between the small town charm and the historical feel of the Inn, the holidays at the Inn are really charming and cozy. Mathews also boasts a Community Christmas Parade and even a lighted boat parade which is sure to delight the kid in all of us!

This time of year also offers some of the best birdwatching. Bluebirds, cardinals, and geese along with Blue Herons, Wild Turkeys, and many varieties of Ducks are all frequent flyers at the Inn. Birdwatching is a popular pastime at the Inn and at many spots throughout the county, especially Bethel Beach Nature Preserve.

Winter Months at our Virginia Bed and Breakfast are just a little slower but a lot more relaxing. You can still go for a walk or bike ride, a fishing tour, or a stroll on one of our beaches! You just might want to layer up!

Winter Eats and Entertainment:

Our restaurants in town usually feature fresh local Rockfish and Oysters this time of year, as well as a warm and welcoming spirit. Occasionally on a Thursday evening, you can find local musicians “jammin” together at Southwinds Pizza. Our local Mexican restaurant also hosts live music on some weekends. Flat Iron Crossroads is a local live music venue, that hosts music from genres of all types.

Winter Months at our Virginia Bed and Breakfast are the perfect time for slowing down. If you just want to hunker down and stay at the Inn, several of our local restaurants deliver, and you can of course call ahead and pick up if delivery is not available. If your looking for something special, The White Dog Bistro is a great place for a romantic dinner with your loved one. Island Stop, our market at the end of the lane, also offers fresh cut steaks. Our suites offer a little more privacy and space. All 3 are equipped with kitchenettes and gas grills so you could grill out, enjoy a fire and keep warm all with a creek side water view.

In the evening, build a fire in our waterside firepit (wood and kindling provided) and enjoy some romantic time with your partner, or great conversation with other guests. Grab a bottle of wine from our honor bar and order a cheese and fruit plate and you are all set!

Our Inn is also conveniently located near many historical areas. These areas are a little less busy in the winter months. Jamestown, Yorktown and Colonial Williamsburg are all only an hours drive from the Inn. Colonial Williamsburg during the Holidays is a special and magical experience. Staying at our Inn, and taking day trips to nearby areas affords guests with an intimate respite from the hustle and bustle of the “Virginia’s Historic Triangle.”

The Northern Neck area is also rich in history and boasts some great restaurants and shops as well, and is less than an hours drive from the Inn. There are also several nature preserves to explore, George Washington’s birthplace, Stratford Hall and several wineries including Good Luck Cellars. White Stone is home to the newly famous Chesapeake Donut Company, and Irvington is home to Compass Entertainment Complex. If you’re feeling adventurous, Compass has an arcade, movie theater, batting cages and mini-golf, complete with restaurant and bar!

After a good nights sleep, wake up to specially brewed and locally roasted coffee. With your morning tea or coffee, watch the birds or look out at the creek as the winter fog rises. Get ready for another day at the Inn with our delicious gourmet breakfast.
