Oyster Seed Holdings, Inc. is now hosting oyster tours at The Hatchery on Gwynn’s Island. This is a unique oyster-culture experience! Take a tour through an oyster seed farm and learn more about the aquaculture in our area. After your oyster tour, dine on the freshest oysters around at their on-site food truck!

The Food:
This waterfront “food truck” is located on Gwynn’s Island in Mathews just a short drive from the inn. The Hatchery is a locally owned and operated open air oyster eatery! Oyster Seed Holdings is a local oyster seed farm. They are now presenting a food truck experience at historic Callis Wharf on Gwynn’s Island. The folks at The Hatchery are connecting people through tours of their facility, oyster tastings and ultimately knowledge on our area, its water systems and what oysters are doing for aquaculture.
Their one of a kind waterfront eatery features food truck-style ordering, open-air picnic table dining, and beer & wine for sale. Join the locals and visitors alike this year for a down to earth experience with sunsets overlooking the Milford Haven.
The Hatchery food truck features an “oyster-centric” menu that rotates a selection of oysters from local oyster farms in the region. Raw, roasted, or fried, they offer an eclectic menu curated by their lead chef, Doug DeForge.
The Tours:
The Hatchery is offering several aquaculture tours and experiences from their property. Every other Friday, book an oyster hatchery tour and tasting to learn more on how oysters start as seed in a hatchery environment.
Take your visit one step further by booking an oyster farm tour by boat. The Hatchery have partnered with Trey from Mathews Deadrise Charters to offer tours on his deadrise, the Helen Elizabeth. You may remember Trey and the Helen Elizabeth used to be docked here at the inn. You can now fin him running boat cruises, and oyster tours on Gwynn’s Island! You can round out your oyster and aqua culture experiences by visiting a local oyster farm and learning how baby oysters are raised to adults.
