The Pavilion at the Tabernacle
Methodist Tabernacle, Salem Church Rd, Mathews, VA
The Pavilion is perfect for those couples who envisioned having a large barn wedding with plenty of hanging lights and the full rustic experience. The current Tabernacle was erected in 1922, however these grounds have been used for religious gathering as early as the Civil War as a gathering place for women to pray for their husbands and sons away at war. Methodists acquired the site in 1879 and built the original tabernacle about half this size as a gathering place for revivals, and evangelic services. As the crowds increased, the original site was built and now you can observe the beautifully constructed 7,000 sq ft pavilion under a hipped roof holding with 20 ft cathedral ceilings, and privately sitting on 7 acres of property. The site is listed on the National and Virginia Registers of Historic Places.
The Pavilion was purchased by the owners of White Dog Bistro, Mac and Jaycee Casale, in 2016 and is now professionally functioning as an event and wedding space that can hold up to 300 people. The original benches have been removed to allow for a very spacious room to hold both ceremony and reception. The best part of the Pavilion is that you don’t have to worry about a backup plan for bad weather, plus you are very close to and incorporated with the outdoors. Therefore this space would look great with decoration that celebrates natural, and vintage elements. The owners provide full wedding services, catering from the White Dog Bistro, and an open-mind to transform your barn wedding. You can also coordinate all services on your own making this another great option for DIY couples!
