Carefully Carrying On

We are happy to announce that we will be slowly and cautiously re-opening starting June 1st, 2020 for those that are seeking a quiet, remote, and socially distant/self-isolating getaway with plenty of outdoor spaces and activities. Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to greatly alter our usual means of operation, while also striving to provide you with the best experience possible along with a very heightened level of safety and sanitation that goes above and beyond our usual strict standards of cleanliness. Please see below our new detailed operational procedures. All seven rooms remain available for renting at this time.
We have also pared down our staff to just the 2 main Innkeepers; Greg and Lori and one of our regular part time staff as needed. We will be constantly checking our temperatures and will not report to work if one or both of us runs a temperature or is not feeling well. Brother David who is a regular team member/Innkeeper will be able to step in as needed but will otherwise remain self-isolating on his property next door. We will wear masks when interacting within 6 ft. of guests in and outside and when providing any food delivery or quick table service.
We cannot wait to have you here, but please check your temperatures before travelling and stay home if running a fever or feeling unwell. Just let us know if you need to cancel, and we will work with you. At this time, we are requiring guests to wear masks inside the main house except when inside you private room or while eating indoors. It is greatly appreciated that you do so especially when indoors in common areas or interacting closer than a 6 ft distance. We ask that all guests please respect other guests six foot “bubble” as well as comfort level while practicing Social Distancing.
As Innkeepers, we love to get to know, catch up, and visit with our guests. The “New Normal” of course has made this more challenging. We must keep ourselves healthy to keep doing what we’re doing, plus to help keep our guests safe and healthy as well as help take care of Lori’s Octogenarian parents that live next door to the Inn property. When not outside and at least 6 feet away, we will wear our microbial fabric masks whenever interacting with guests.

CLEANING AND HOUSEKEEPING:
*We have partnered with Ecolab to provide us with the highest quality hand sanitizers as well as commercial grade cleaning and sanitizing products proven to kill COVID-19 within 45 seconds. Each guest room and common areas at Inn will be equipped with commercial grade CDC approved hand sanitizer dispensers. We have also received additional training through Ecolab as to following all CDC best recommendations and practices for cleaning within commercial lodging establishments to ensure guest comfort and safety.
Going forward, all guest rooms and common areas have been “pared down” slightly to eliminate clutter and items that cannot be as thoroughly sanitized such as decorative pillows.
Every guest room will be cleaned between guests as per our usual strict standards with additional protocols for sanitation and safety. After these protocols are taken place, room will then not be entered again until the next scheduled guests arrive.

Self-check in will now be available with prior instructions about property and code to lock box for each room containing individual sanitized room key. For those who prefer to meet host(s) upon check in, (especially any new guests to our property), we would love to say “Hi! When greeting guests, we will always wear a mask and properly sanitize before each check in. as well as maintain a safe distance while touring property and showing to your room. We are ALWAYS available for assistance in helping bring in any luggage, etc. and of course available to answer any questions via phone call or text.
For the foreseeable future, we will no longer be providing seated breakfast in our main indoor dining areas as usual, nor our breakfast buffets and communal coffee service due to latest safety guidelines. What we WILL be offering is our same delicious full breakfasts either delivered to your door or left just outside your room on “Breakfast in Bed” trays, or for pickup in the main house to enjoy anywhere around outside areas including our screened in porch, new small bistro tables on outside decks or poolside, as well as outside picnic tables, front porch, etc. Dining inside the main Inn is still an option if there are only a few people here and we will still offer table service or contact-less pick up options.

INDOOR COMMON AREAS:
Common areas of the downstairs of the Main Inn will still be open to all, but we ask that once again everyone maintain safe distance and avoid more than 4 to 6 congregated in any area as the downstairs is somewhat small. Guests are required to wear masks indoors, except when eating or inside your private room. Outside areas are always safer than indoors whenever possible. Common Touch points such as doorknobs, remotes, light switches, faucet handles etc. will be regularly disinfected along with surface areas and floors. Guest fridge with additional bottles of wine for purchase will still be available, as well as snack area and ice machine. Rooms will have ice trays filled in each room’s freezer, but if more is needed there are ice buckets in each room and a small ice machine available in downstairs common area. Sanitizing station and gloves available to use when retrieving ice with a scoop that is also regularly washed and sanitized.
Per Governor Northam’s Executive Order, the pool will not be available for guest use until June 10, 2020 and unless otherwise directed we will keep open through end of September. Two pairs of lounge chairs and a poolside table and chairs are all spaced more than 6 ft away and will be disinfected regularly between guest use along with stair handles down into pool.
OTHER DINING OPTIONS:
Several of our local restaurants have outdoor seating which is currently open although limited. Limited indoor dining should be available by June 10th or shortly thereafter and all will continue with take-out/curbside pick-up. A few will continue delivery service as well. We will be updating our dining page soon and will be happy to answer any questions. Within walking distance up our lane, we also have a small deli at our local market that makes great sandwiches, side dishes, deli salads and hand tossed pizza most weekends. They also have hand cut steaks and fresh seafood for sale if you want to grill out at our gas grill. We also have plenty of Picnic coolers available if you want to head out to one of our local beaches for some fresh air and sunshine. Or grab some skewers out of our Crab Shack for brats, dogs or s’mores over the firepit. Glamping at its finest! Fresh local seafood can be found at several locations here in Mathews, and we will be happy to help arrange for you to find some fresh oysters, steamed crabs, etc. to enjoy with a beautiful waterfront view in the Inn backyard.
Our regular cancellation policy is shown on every room page and reservations page of our website. Due to the current circumstances, however, we will be more than willing to work with last minute cancellations due to sickness and/or if we are put on further restrictions. Credit towards a future stay or refunds when necessary will be issued on a case by case basis. Everyone’s safety comes first!
BIKES, KAYAKS, AND SUP BOARDS:
We have 4 cruiser bikes, 4 sit on top kayaks, 2 sit in kayaks, 1 tandem kayak, and 6 Stand Up Paddleboards and 1 canoe that will all still be available for guest use free of charge. We can help with any equipment as needed, and all guests must sign a liability release form before taking out equipment per our insurance. We will have disinfectant spray available to spray all touch points of equipment and please ask that this is done in between each guest use or alert us when done and we will be happy to take care of it. Check out our Activities page for more information on cycling and paddling in rural Mathews County.
Bay Beaches and other outdoor public spaces are currently open and were usually quiet even before COVID-19. Once again, please just maintain safe distance from others. Several Shops, Galleries and our local Visitors Center are at least partially open most days and following guidelines. Here on property we have outdoor games available including cornhole, horseshoes, bocce ball court and disc golf baskets. A few fishing poles and some crabbing equipment are available for guest use. We will work to help keep all sanitized in between guest use. Our lane makes for a nice walk as well as a nearby wooded trail.
